Day 20

Got on the road a little early today 7:30, knew we had a long road day.  Departed under cold and wet conditions and even ran into some snow flurries.  Arrived at Glennallen, then headed south to Valdez. The further south we traveled the better the weather became.  As we headed south there was a sign posted saying Thompson Pass was opened.  In 1952/53 the pass received 974 inches of snow. The pass is 2678 feet above sea level. Couple of years later received 62 inches in one day, yes one day.  Wow! We were traveling the Richardson Highway again which followed the Tazlina River.  And again the closer we got to Valdez the prettier it became.  Along the way stopped and viewed another glacier the Worthington.  Right before Valdez saw some beautiful waterfalls.  Arrived in Valdez toured around and departed.

Then we made a return trip back up the Richardson Highway.  Our goal then was to drive as far as we could to make tomorrow’s drive a bit easier.  We were going to stop in Glenallen, but the RV parks had closed due to freezing water.  We checked a few others with the same result.  So around 3 pm thinking we were going to settle down for the night we drove and extra 100 miles.  We took the Tok Cutoff road towards Tok. The drive ended up well worth it. Saw some great scenery and 2 or 3 volcanoes.  Couple of mountains very tall 14k and 16K range.  Finally found an RV park about 50 miles from Tok.  It is a very quaint place.  The owner is a 70+ lady who is trying to sell the place. She only had 4 spots open and had closed all of her other spots due to freezing water.  We are the only ones here. Working on the blog tonight and hope to get caught back up.  Headed for Haines Junction Friday.

ANDY’S REPORT.
Very cold and wet this morning. Dad made me go and take care of business even though I would rather stay under the blankets.  Dad got the moving house ready to rumble, mom finally showed up with some kind of food in foil blankets and had bread with a hole in it.  Dad got mad when he found out they cost $9 each!  I think he was mad since we never saw the mermaid lady.  So off we went driving and stopping. I got in a few good walks along the way. Couple of good smells. I could detect some of my cousins had previously been there.  We made one stop where there was a huge hill full of frozen water, I wondered if it tasted as good as the ones the peeps give me out of the cold box?  Stopped finally at some place where there was tons of grass.  Also no other moving houses, so it was nice and quiet.  I loved it. Made dad take me on 3 walks.  Even took a late night walk.  Feeling a little tired so going to bed. Goodnight.

Do I have to get up?

Cold and wet!

Another good walk along the way!

Oh no! Another huge hill of frozen water!
