Day 17

Departed the campground around 8ish,  drove by the Port of Anchorage, could not see very much.  Stopped at Meyer’s picked up some groceries.  Entered the Seward Highway headed toward Homer.  Anchorage is at sea level, and only after driving a few miles, we were back in the mountains.  We could see Beluga whales swimming in the Cook Inlet. We stopped at Portage Glacier. Took a tour of their information center.  Learned about glaciers and some animal life.  Very interesting. The area south of Anchorage is known as the Kenai Peninsula  and has a large river, the Kenai. This river was just beautiful.  And even at this time of the year there were people out fishing.  We arrived  in Homer around  4 pm.  Stopped at Ocean View RV park. The view at the park is just spectacular.  We then drove into downtown Homer and then to the Homer spit.  It's a finger of land about 3 miles long and is where many of the deep sea fishing vessels are located. We ate out for our really first dine out at Captain Pattie's Fish House.  Had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated. Had clam chowder, salad, sourdough bread (fresh baked) and the Sea Sampler Platter. It consisted of halibut, shrimp, scallops, salmon and French fries.  Very good, but a little expensive. Returned to the RV park.  The park had a trail down to the sea. Attempted to walk all the way to the water, but it was way too rocky.  Returned to the RV to do our blog and then to bed.

ANDY’S REPORT.
A little cold last night.  The peeps had to get me up.  Drove around the big city for a while, stopped at the people store. Peeps went in, came out later and, of course, had the mermaid lady cups. Goodness!  Then we started our stop and go routine.  We kept driving by this big moving water place that kept following our trail.  I could see other people on it.  We then drove to some place that really had a funny smell.  Salty and smelled fishy. Hmmmm.  The peeps took off for a while, made me guard the moving house. Came back and guess what?  Had a nice piece of fish for me.  The ole nose never lets me down.  Went to the place with lots of moving houses. Peeps took me on a walk down some very steep hill. Saw a lot of water, smelled salty. Dad wanted to walk to the water, but it was too rocky. Back up the hill, into the moving house. I’m going to bed. Goodnight.
Where's Dad?
That's Homer?
Where's the Beach?
